Intel will be launching its next-gen "Raptor Lake Refresh" CPUs later this year, with the 14th Gen Core CPUs launching with a new flagship processor in the Core i9-14900K... but will you need a new motherboard?
Do you need a new motherboard for Intel's new 14th Gen Core CPUs? Nope. The answer is no. Intel will be using its current LGA1700 socket for the new 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" CPUs, meaning the new processors will slot into existing Z790, H760, and H710 motherboards. All you'll need to do is update your BIOS, and the new Raptor Lake Refresh CPU will be ready to rock and roll inside your Gaming PC.
Intel's new 14th Gen Core CPUs will launch with a new series of chipsets and a new wave of motherboards, with the Z890, B860, and H810 motherboards. You won't need to buy a new motherboard to use a Raptor Lake Refresh CPU, as they'll be LGA1700 sockets. However, new 800 series motherboards will have their own benefits, but we're being clear: you don't need to buy a new motherboard, if you had a mid-range Core i5-13600K for example... you could upgrade right up to the new Core i9-14900K in your existing motherboard with a BIOS update.
