NVIDIA's current fleet of "Ada Lovelace" GPU-powered GeForce RTX 40 series cards are mostly out, including the GeForce RTX 4090, GeForce RTX 4080, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, GeForce RTX 4070, and new GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and GeForce RTX 4060 graphics cards. But there's always a next-gen GPU in the making, ready for a next-gen Gaming PC.
In a new post, HardwareLuxx has posted an NVIDIA GPU roadmap that includes information on future GPU chips and architectures. For the rest of the year, Ada Lovelace is still here while in 2025 we're going to see "Ada Lovelace Next". This is the next-gen GeForce GPU architecture, that will power the GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs including the GeForce RTX 5090, GeForce RTX 5080, and GeForce RTX 5070 graphics cards.
Refresh GeForce RTX 40 series GPU: we could expect cards like
"Ada Lovelace Next" GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs: we could expect
Or maybe we're only hoping... but the VRAM situation will increase with next-gen GPUs. AMD's Radeon RX 7900 XTX has 24GB, while the Radeon RX 7900 XTX has 20GB. AMD has ramped up to 16GB in mid-range, and VRAM problems are already popping their head up across the board in PC games. 2025 and beyond GPUs should hopefully cater to higher VRAM usage, hopefully.
We won't see a true next-gen GeForce GPU in 2024, but we should see a refresh with the likes of a new flagship card in a GeForce RTX 4090 Ti or a possible "SUPER" refresh as we had with the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, and GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER graphics cards.
The current GeForce RTX 40 series is powered by "Ada Lovelace" while we could expect new "Ada Lovelace Next" GPUs in future RTX 50 series graphics cards. In the list above, I've got some thoughts on possible RTX 40 series refresh GPU expectations, and next-gen RTX 50 series GPU expectations. Ada Lovelace Next will hopefully deliver the goods, driving high-end PC gaming GPU power through the roof.
