Diablo IV will be getting Microsoft DirectStorage technology in the future, something the company has now confirmed with PC Gamer. DirectStorage started out with the Xbox Series X and S consoles, combining hardware and software together that were designed to "reinvent the traditional I/O system" that would reduce loading times. Speaking of loading times, our Ready to Ship Patriot + M.O.A.B. Gaming PC family of systems packs super-fast Gen4-enabled NVMe M.2 SSDs
DirectStorage acts as a low-level API that has greater control over I/O queues, optimal prioritization, and lower latency. Diablo IV isn't the first game on the PC to use the technology, with Forspoken launching a few months ago packing DirectStorage technology.
Diablo IV's use of DirectStorage could see loading times reduced even further, but it's not like they're horrendously long as it is... so the implementation will be interesting to see. But, traditional mechanical-based HDDs are getting a benefit through DirectStorage 1.2 which allows developers to force a buffered I/O mode that improves performance on regular HDDs. This would be good for lower-specced Gaming PC with HDDs running Diablo IV.
