Sons of the Forest has reached a major milestone in the first 24 hours of the new survival horror game hitting Steam Early Access, where it has sold over 2 million copies and counting. Developer Endnight Games tweeted out a thank you to everyone, with the tweet reading: "Thanks to those who have joined us in our Early Access journey into "Sons Of The Forest". We have sold over 2 million copies in the first 24 hours, and are very excited for what we have in store for players in the coming weeks".
For those unaware of what Sons of the Forest actually is, the game sees you sent to a remote island where a billionaire has gone missing, where the island is infested with cannibals. You'll need to craft, build, and of course... struggle to survive -- with, or without friends -- in the new open-world survival horror simulator.
Nowhere is safe in the world, where there's a multitude of mutated creatures with some of them being almost human-like and others who are "like nothing you have ever seen before". You'll have an assortment of weapons at your disposal in Sons of the Forest, including pistols, axes, stun batons, and much more.
Building and Crafting:
Sons of the Forest wouldn't be an open-world survival horror simulator without buidling and crafting, right? You can break sticks into smaller sticks to make fires, and use your trusty axe to not just slay some horrible creature, but also use it to cut out windows and floors. Players can craft themselves up a small cabin, or a bigger seaside compound... you decide.
Seasons change:
You'll have to adapt your play style in Sons of the Forest, where you can grab fresh salmon from streamers during the spring and summer, collect other various types of meat from animals, and store them during those cold winter months. During the colder seasons of the game... be careful... because food and supplies become scarce, so people will be hunting you down to take your harvest.
Cooperative gameplay:
If you want to play Sons of the Forest with friends, then you're in luck! You can choose to survive the remote island on your own, or you can share items and collaborate on crafting and building with friends to create larger, more deadly defenses. You can build bases and buildings above, and even better... below ground.
Sons of the Forest Minimum PC Requirements:
Sons of the Forest Recommended PC Requirements:
The developer plans to have Sons of the Forest in Early Access "for around 6-8 months" but notes that "this could change", while adding "we will leave Early Access when we are certain this is the best version of the game possible". The full version of the game will have a multitude of expected bug fixes and improvements on both the balance of the game as well as core gameplay, while the developer has plans to add more items, more things you can 3D print, more things to build and discover as well as "additional game mechanics and lore".
